Born in Belfast, Cathy always wanted to write and after journalism college went to work at the Sunday World, Ireland's biggest tabloid Sunday newspaper, where she started in news but went on to become a feature writer, agony aunt, film critic and columnist.
While still a journalist, she decided to have a crack at writing a novel. This was Woman to Woman, which went straight in to the Irish bestseller list and stayed there for 8 weeks. Once In A Lifetime, her eleventh novel published in paperback in September 2009 went to No 1 within days of its release. Her books are international best sellers in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Cathy is also an Ambassador for UNICEF in Ireland helping to raise awareness of the plight of children orphaned in Africa through Aids. She currently lives with her partner, John and six-year-old twin boys in Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

11th September – had a lovely treat and met up with Patricia Scanlan, Sheila O’Flanagan and Anita Notaro for an event in Dublin’s Trinity College in conjunction with Ireland’s Sunday Independent newspaper. Because the four of us know each other well, it was relaxed and great fun. We talked about how we write, how we clean the microwaves to avoid writing, and did our best to give advice to the lovely people who’d come along. So many people want to write and although there are reams of types of advice out there, a vital bit is to get your bum on the seat and start. Another great thing is to have a friend going through the same thing. Patricia and Sheila and I email all the time about life, the universe and everything. I don’t think we ever talk about books, we talk about our lives, about ‘the current book’, mainly about our lives.
